Collaborative music performances over network and online music learning are just some examples of the new artistic and pedagogic approaches involving new technologies. However there is a latency issue using the web.

Music perception and musical interaction relies on time, musicians have the ability to cope and tolerate time delays (latency) to some extent avoiding a performance breakout. However it would be interesting to know which factors contribute to this process. It depends on the differences between musical instruments or is just a talent intrinsic to every musician?

A brief description of the designed method for testing musician’s skills to cope with latency as well as the different problems in measuring human abilities will be presented and discussed.
